Numinous Cry Project had the opportunity to compose SIEGE (Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo) conference’s theme and intro music for 2020. We also put together the videos using the given SIEGE logo and adding animations to it to create the “intro” and “livestream starting soon” videos for intermittent moments between talks and sessions.

Music featured in HomeTeam GameDev’s official demo video for 2021. Specifically two tracks from our repertoire were used in this promotional video, Time Cannon’s, starting around minute 3, and Rovey’s Title Music, starting around minute 4.

Updraft creates an overall whimsical and energetic musical base to be heightened by a crescendo that represents the building up of the excitement of discovery in this adventure. Using various articulations of violins and violas the back bone of the piece is define with the help of a music box to further cement the main melody. The brass alongside the woodwinds help color the piece in a more casual manner, while the unconventional percussion ensemble composed of various wood-base, metal and leather components, further develop the toy-like feeling fitting of such child-like adventures.

Updraft is an original composition for Paper to Pail. Paper to Pail is a casual, fun simulator where the player navigates a paper airplane through a house setting filled with toys and furniture to try and land inside the recycling bin to win.

Ephemeral Enigma

Ephemeral Enigma is one of the gameplay tracks for a strategy turn-based tabletop simulator where players cast spell against each other to claim victory. Ephemeral Enigma is composed to create a specific atmosphere of wonder and strategic epiphany contrasting against the tension of decision making and determining the optimal line of play.

Ephemeral Enigma uses a deep, wide, low chorus to emit a chord progression that rumbles throughout the track establishing the back bone for the composition as well as defining a dark serious scenery for the player's imagination. A music box can be heard overlaying the chorus creating a playfully articulated melody that becomes the motif of the piece, reflecting the lighter side of the magic circle. A number of percussion instruments are used to give breadth and depth as well as ornament to the track. The taiko drums are used to accentuate the rigid and strong march of turns, while the triangle, bells, cymbals and percussive-synths are used to build up the environment. The violas take sections from the melody and turn them into their own to compliment and hold the main melody. Ceramic wind instruments like the bawu create variations of the main melody and sporadically present themselves in a lighter tone amidst the overall darker tone of the piece.

Overrun

Overrun is the main game battle music for Alien Overrun. Alien Overrun is a real-time strategy defense game with a caricature twists where a horde of aliens are invading your medieval city and the player has to build defenses and counter attack the invasion. Overrun as a musical piece looks to communicate the medieval aspect of the game through its instruments selection, but articulated with a modern melody to create the juxtaposition of old and new era feel with a funny twist. The heavy percussion resembles the call to war while looking to inspire courage with emotionally intense vocals. The violin looks to establish the overall mood of the game with cellos and brass instruments lifting the melody up in an interpretation of medieval progression. All of this melodic structure is shattered by a sharp change in percussion rhythm and articulation giving the opportunity for a more jovial interpretation of war dynamics through the fleeting notes of the flute and clarinet, while the trumpet and tuba take on a less serious role.

Whisperdrift

Whisperdrift is the main theme song for Whisperdrift, a game developed in Gamkedo. Whisperdrift is a whimsical 2d platformer where a spiritual creature looks to regain its physical self by freeing fairies from their crystal prisons across underground levels to defeat the final serpent boss. Whisperdrift as a musical piece looks to embody the whimsically dark and lush ambience of the underground cavernous levels with its minimal, but articulated percussion and its background cellos, violas, choral, guitar and harps playing scattered soothing melodies structuring the foundation of the piece. Light, fast, and articulated melodies by the piano and piccolo flute, coupled with the emotional layer brought forth by the violin, represent the optimistic, but harsh journey as the player looks to regain their physical form. Whisperdrift is part of a soundtrack project for the Whisperdrift game; two more tracks are featured in this page: Aphsith and Scintillant. The rest of the soundtrack can be heard on my SoundCloud page here.

Aphsith

Aphsith is the boss theme for Whisperdrift. Whisperdrift is a whimsical 2d platformer where a spiritual creature looks to regain its physical self by freeing fairies from their crystal prisons across underground levels to defeat the final serpent boss. In this final encounter where all is on the line for the player to regain their physical form, the piece looks to bring forth a different pace from the game's main theme song "Whisperdrift". Aphsith embodies the rush of danger when facing the final boss, bringing the violin up front into a more predominant position in the piece, dictating the emotion of the battle and the journey. In Aphsith the articulation of the percussion intensifies the atmosphere of the final encounter, the viola's pizzicato and sharp melodies help transition the piece from one section to another, the pulse of the cellos define a darker, more threatening undertone to the piece, while the rest of the instruments articulate the intensity of the moment. Aphsith is part of a soundtrack project for the Whisperdrift game; two more tracks are featured in this page: Whisperdrift and Scintillant. The rest of the soundtrack can be heard on my SoundCloud page here.
